Arsenal handed huge Jurrien Timber injury boost as defender steps up recovery

Arsenal have been handed a huge injury boost after defender Jurrien Timber was pictured stepping up his recovery from a serious knee injury.

Timber, 22, arrived in north London during the summer transfer window after securing a £34million move from Ajax to the Emirates Stadium, as Arsenal looked to step up their search for silverware. However, just 50 minutes into his Premier League debut for the club, the defender.

was substituted by Mikel Arteta during their opening game of the season against Nottingham Forest, with it later being revealed that he had torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Fast forward five months, The Gunners have now posted an update regarding Timber's road to recovery from the long-term injury, after releasing footage of the player being put through his paces while away with the rest of his squad on a training camp in Dubai.

The Netherlands international underwent ball work away from his teammates for the first time since sustaining the setback.

Speaking back in December, Timber offered an update to football.london on a potential return for Arsenal in the near future. "I feel like it’s going pretty quick," he said on his recovery.

"I’m making good progress and also the knee is reacting very well so I’m happy with the way things are going. Let’s just see how things are going and how long it will be still."

"The support of my team-mates and the coaches was immense from the moment I heard the news," he added. "I remember [Oleksandr] Zinchenko and Mo [Elneny] were at the training ground, everyone was off [that day] and the doctor left me alone for a bit, and they came into my room.

''They were just talking to me and encouraging me, saying so many positive things. A lot of guys were texting me, because everyone was off so no one was at the club, but they heard what happened and were texting me.

They asked if I was okay and the support was immense."
