Arsenal and Tottenham sent Premier League title warning ahead of Man City vs Liverpool clash

Arsenal and Tottenham have been warned that the Premier League title will not be heading to north London this season. The Gunners are currently sat just a single point behind Manchester City - level on points with Liverpool in second place.

After back-to-back defeats against Chelsea and Wolves prior to the international break, Spurs now find themselves in fourth just two points adrift of City. With international football now taking a back seat until March, the Premier League title race can finally get into full flow.

However, former City captain Richard Dunne believes it will be Jurgen Klopp’s side to challenge the reigning champions for the title this term - not Arsenal or Spurs. "City and Liverpool will be up there," Dunne told Betway when asked about the title race and who his former side’s biggest challengers would be.

"I’m still not sure about Arsenal and if they can compete in all the different competitions. Is their squad big enough?

"People have already spoken about their lack of a centre forward. They’ve created their own problems in the goalkeeping department, which now seems to be a big issue.

"Tottenham have shown they’re just not strong enough with a few injuries. I’m more inclined to go with Liverpool."

The Gunners have had to deal with a number of injury concerns so far this season, along with the return of Champions League football at the Emirates Stadium. Mikel Arteta is currently without Thomas Partey, Jurrien Timber and Emile Smith Rowe - whilst Ben White is a fitness doubt ahead of the Brentford clash after sustaining a muscle injury, football.london understands.

Spurs are set to be without James Maddison and Micky Van de Ven until the new year - two players that have been pivotal for Ange Postecoglou's side so far this season. However, Tottenham do not have to contend with European football this season and so there is less fixture intensity for Postecoglou's side to deal with compared to their north London rivals.

Arsenal are looking to strengthen in the January transfer window as Arteta eyes a new midfield signing to bolster his options. Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz is a name on their radar, and Dunne has predicted the defensive midfielder – who was previously on the books of City – to make a move in the near-future.

"Luiz will have Champions League ambition. He will know soon enough if he can do that at Villa," Dunne added.

"There are certain clubs that need that position covering. So I expect he will be sought after in the January transfer window – if not, the summer."
